What do you wish you had known before you got your chickens

I am sorry that I didn't know about chicken math. What is the cure? My granddaughter has it bad. When are we going to get some more chickens papa? We are going to let our chickens make some little ones aren't we.

Wish I had known there were so many different breeds of chickens, then I wouldn't have even got started lol. Now every time I see a chicken I don't have, I'm like "oh, I need 2 of those!" Its insane....

Also wish I had known that my love of flip- flops and my love of chickens wouldn't get along. As the chickens love to peck at my painted toe nails...

Lastly, I wish I had known that due to there being so many kinds of chickens that I don't have, that I had a much bigger, better coop :)

How excited I would get over ordering chicken gadgets. Just ordered 2 Brinsea Ecoglow 20's for my two brooders. Most women get excited to go shoe shopping...me, its worm composers and alternatives to heat lamps

Unless I get a broody hen I fear the siren's call of the incubator may be next

Mine have not gone after my toe nails yet but I am not giving up my flip flops! And yes, I am getting 2 silkies this week to add to my flock. And I just begged my hubby last night if I could have some Barred Plymouths. Not because we need them but because of their coloring that I think is pretty. AND I have been thinking how fun it would be to have an easter egger. PLUS I plan to breed my buff orps so I will eventually be getting more of those. Gee I just need 10 more birds is all-2 Easter Eggers, 4 Barred PR and 4 more buffs . LOL I have gone chicken mad!!!

I made the coop large enough to fit 8 in it comfortably. If I do end up getting 10 more then I need a bigger coop!!!

1. Vaccinate chicks if possible
2. Have the coop done before you get the chickens.
3. research specific breeds so you don't get a chicken you don't like.
4. Protect your garden
5. You will want more.
6. Make the coop human sized for easy cleaning.

There is so cure for grandparent chicken math. Lol. Matter of fact, there's not even anything to make it better. Lol

Haha they ought to sell a chicken coop that you can add on to. The add ons would increase coop size but cost less than a coop. Everyone I know out grows their coops. L

Before I got my chickens, I never thought about vaccinations. I started doing my own medications, but it took me a while to vaccinate for pox. Pushing that pronged tool through my chickens wing just scared me. But I watched the video on YouTube over and over, I did it and it was easy.

Haha. Here's the choice: Mall or feed store. I'll take the feed store every time. And, Lowe's where I get inspired to build stuff for the chickens.
