What do you wish you knew before getting peacocks?

Wish the color sticky had actual descriptions for each color, for chicks and adults. When I'm out somewhere and rushed would be nice to pull up a reference rather than go by my memory. Birds are often misidentified by sellers, sometimes innocently, could show them the correct color from an independent source so they don't think I'm trying to trick them.
There is a very good chart that @new 2 pfowl has made that should be linked to here somehow for easy reference. I know I keep losing the link...

That would be an excellent idea! Maybe you could also turn those charts about healthy peachicks into stickies as well. :)
I'm sorry if I broke the rules some how. I read the stickies, but I figured there might be some mistakes people had made that were typical to "green horns" that I could avoid.
Please don't be sorry. Your question is a great one and now this is a fantastic thread! We all learn along the way & kick ourselves for not doing things differently when things don't go well. Sharing those insights is part of what makes this site so amazing. It's very smart to want to avoid "green horn" mistakes. I'm not a novice, nor an expert, but have learned from the answers in this thread. Thank you for asking the question!

Thank you! I just want to do the very best I can for my little birds. My animals are better taken care of than we are, and I don't want to stop that now. LOL

You didn't break any rules!

That is a very good point and it is difficult to know if the advice you receive is good or not. Case in point the three ml in a gal of water hype, well, it must be true I read it on the internet.
Don't get me started, lol, the misinformation list is quite long!

Believe it or not, exotic vets are hard to find in Florida. I think the closest one is 5 hours away. the breeder, and the experts on this site will probably be my best choice, although I'm going to search for one.
Although I could call them, I just won't be too close to them.

Are you near any of these?

Now is about the time of year where people will start posting "help, my peachick is sick", and sadly most that do post will lose their chicks. :(
