What does an impacted crop feel like?

I have a 6 month old pullet with a large marble size knot at the base of her neck above the breast bone on the right side. She is eating, drinking and pooping normally. I carried her around some over the weekend and felt nothing. Now this. Is an impacted crop what I'm feeling? Will ACV help clear it up or is that just a myth?

Thanks,

Beth

If shes eating and pooping, it is not fully impacted. Maybe partially, though. Sounds awfully small, maybe just a full crop and not impacted at all? Have you tried feeling it early in morning before she eats, to see if it empties overnight?

There are people who use ACV for lots of things and really believe in it. I don't. I doubt it would help clear an obstruction, and in advanced cases where sour crop develops (which I don't think is where you are with your bird), ACV can be a bad thing, according to one school of thought, because a sour crop is already too acidic. So if you want to try to fix the pH, you should make it less acidic by giving baking soda in water, not an acidic vinegar into the crop.
