What does Female Line mean??

My daughter won a pair of Brown Red Female Line Old English Game Bantams.
The guy who held the drawing shows in Ga, lots of winners.
He told us if she wanted to show the hen was show quality and rooster was not.

Can someone give us a little heads up on what this means, or the name of a book that can explain it, or links so I can show to my daughter tomorrow after school.

We are to pick up the pair tomorrow from the PO.

Female line means the breeder is selecting for the best quality females and not trying to win anything with the males. That should be ok for you, you can still show a pair of them and they are judged individually, so the male will not detract from your female's ability to place.

Not every breeder breeds that way, most try to breed for high quality in both males and females. The more specialized way might result in a better placing, but there is no guarantee of that, and most people don't that the resources to maintain 2 separate lines of a breed.

So chicks from the female line female and the female line male will only create female line chicks that only the females will probably be show worthy...Yes

Yes, but you could still win "best of show" with a pair of those because the female is judged as an individual, and if the competition is not great, the males could place high too, even if the breeder you got them from does not consider them "show worthy". There is also no reason you could not breed to improve the males in the line also. There are no guarantees in showing, it's not all genetics, and even the genetics are variable in each generation.

Send that pic with your daughter to the person who donated the bantams, that will make them glad they donated. That is the most rewarding art of this hobby, to see people really appreciate the birds you raised, and with kids it's twice as fun.

BTW, keep an eye on the zip ties used as bands. I cut them off once I don't need them to id the chicks any longer. It's possible they could tighten or get caught on something. Not too great a chance of that, but something to be aware of.
