I too believe this. I know when I was living in the dorm at the university and feeling really low God sent my deceased pet to me at night to sleep on my bed with me just like we did when she was alive. People may think I am crazy but I think he knew I needed her more than ever then so he let her come visit me for awhile until we meet again on the Rainbow Bridge.

I too have lost pets I love. And I believe I will see them again someday...1 dog named Milo though, I hope never to see again! My father is a Veterinarian still practicing.
(45 yrs now)and it bums him out every time he has to put an animal down! So sorry, it takes time to heal!

I believe the "soul" to be consciousness. All higher animals posess consciousness for sure. I'm not entirely clear as to the individual consciousness of "hive" type animals such as bees and ants, but since there is a collective consciousness, I imagine they have a collective soul(s).

Being a scientist I tend to try and find biological/molecular mechanisms to explain everything, and I think that a soul will be able to be explained molecularly in the near future, i.e. neurons and neuronal circuits etc. That being said - I definately believe in a God or higher power. Religion I'm not so sure, but God - yes most definately.

Here is what I find so interesting about the soul - while I beleive it to be brain related - when your soul aches it is your chest - or heart- which hurts. You feel it in your chest, your whole middle section is just filled with what i don't know - emptyness - I don't understand that. Somehow these two are related and together they make up the "soul" or the consciousness of a person. Just my take.

All I know is that if my beloved cockatoo isn't waiting for me when I pass over to whatever it is, and I'm conscious enough to realize she's not there - I'm going to throw a FIT.

She better be there.

I agree with those who believe that it wouldn't be heaven without our beloved animals. I believe that Robert E Lee wanted his horse, Traveller, buried beside him because he wanted his horse in Heaven.

When I think of all the good and bad times that my animals have been there with me, whether there to shed tears into a furry coat, soft feathers, or silky mane, or simply to be happy to see me even if I was only gone for 5 whole minutes, animals make this a much better, kinder place.

I also agree that if Jesus is coming back on a white horse, then there are horses in heaven, as well as all the other animals. When I read the Bible, some of my favorite parts are in Job where God brags on the majesty of the horse that he made.

I believe that God is a kind, loving Father and above all He wants us to be happy and fulfilled. He created animals for us to use and enjoy and be kind to. I am a better person, more patient, kind, because of my animals. Also, there's something to be said for the feeling of peace and contentment when I just sit outside for a few minutes and watch my chickens run around and look around and see all my animals playing, eating, etc.

Just my 2 cents.

Sorry about your dog-that's a tough decision.

I'm staying out of the whole other part of the discussion though!

If anyone has ever seen the movie What dreams may come.. with Robin Williams, when he sees his dog in his heaven, It makes me cry.
I believe that dogs go to heaven, my gosh, they are smarter than some people I know! and loyal, they are always happy to see you, and forgive you when they know they were bad and you yell at them, and then 5 minutes later they are on your lap licking you and wagging their tails.
I am a christian too, and I believe God loves all the animals, he created them.

I don't "do" religion. When I was in the Marines, I had dogtags that said "Dogist" in the space for religious preference.
Some of them thought it was funny, some .... not so much.

**not christian** I do believe that animals have souls. as far as where they go when they die, I believe they will go on to follow their normal routine where they are, like they never left. I believe in ghosts, have seen them, have dealt with them. I have a "goat" that walks across my porch every day...no goats on my porch that I can see!!! Call me crazy, that is what I believe!!

I love animals. All animals. I grew up "hearing" that animals don't have souls and don't have an afterlife. It was difficult to just "deal with it", but I didn't allow my heart to hope to see my precious sweet pets again. However, since my lovely mom died 2 1/2 years ago, my father was saved and was baptized at the age of 73! My dad is getting old. He's lost his sweetheart, which took a piece of his heart, his life, away. He now speaks with authority regarding animals in heaven. He has absolutely no doubt that they are there. It is amazing to hear and makes me so happy! Heaven is going to be so glorious! And I listen to my father. Two weeks before my mother died, we were at my son's football game. I was sitting a couple of feet from her on the bleachers. She was mesmerized, staring out on to the field. She said softly, "I'll never see Torin play football again." She had no terminal diagnosis, just her regular health problems. She was not aware that I heard her. I don't believe she was aware that she said it. It was absolutely otherworldly. Stunned, I turned to look at her. Her face cleared and she smiled at me. It was as if what she said was an aside from a movie that popped up on the screen. She smiled and everything was absolutely "normal" again. And she never saw Torin play football again. She was in heaven two weeks later. So when my father tells me with absolute surety that my darling animals will go to heaven, I listen.
