I have 4 hens and a rooster living with my ducks. Two of those hens are there because they rooster beats them up, the other two were new ladies long with the new rooster, are there for company. Anyway, one of the hen's in with the ducks, is Sunny. She has been in there for a while because she is Sams, my other rooster with the big flock's, favorite. Her best friend, Mango, hangs in the other flock. Tonight, I let them all out together, and decided to let Mango sleep with Sunny for the night. When I grabbed her, her crop felt unusually large and hard I guess. I felt the other hens crops as well, and hers does feel larger, and very solid. I am going to check on her again in the morning and see how it looks. What does impacted or sour crop feel like? I have never had either of them before, but I am concerned that this could be one of them? Thanks for any insight!

Is she acting lethargic? What are her poops like?
A large crop could simply mean she's a big eater.
The keys to identifying a crop problem are her condition, behavior, what is coming out the other end and if the crop is empty and flat in the morning.

How does her crop feel this morning? It should be completely empty if she hasn’t eaten anything yet. If it is sour crop, it will feel bloated and slightly squishy like a balloon full of air.

Got it! I will check all of these things. I am not going to be to concerned before I check this morning, I just wanted to make sure just in case. Thank you!
