My experience is similar
I hatch ducklings from late winter through spring and they get use to hearing my voice before they hatch and I am there when they hatch
I handle them as soon as they dry up
These ducklings will follow me around the garden and they are fine left alone by themselves when I am out
However when they grow older they will leave me and venture farther away
They now live outside in their pen with members from different imprinted batches
Even as adult ducks they are very tame and not skittish like other purchased ducks
They know they are ducks
I am just their mama duck with food and treats
