I called my mother the other day and her husband answered. We chatted for a while and he asked about the weather. I said that it was beautiful and that I was out back "hanging out with my chickens".

He started laughing and kept repeating "hanging out with your chickens!" I finally said, "Does that sound really bad?" He said "Well you know what that means!"

Well, I don't. Does anyone else? I kind of faked my way around it and asked to talk to my mother but I still have no clue of what that was about. He's almost 70, came from a rural area and worked in fish and game for many years.

What did I miss?

i guess it depends on who's saying it. when i'm hanging out with the chickens, i'm right with them talking to them and feeding them. you know, being their buddy

when my mom is hanging out with the chickens, she's modifying the coop or feeding them or gathering eggs... tidying up one might say.

when my boyfriend is hanging out with the chickens he's smoking a cigarette and teasing them.

Huh...When I get asked "where have you been?" -we live on 6 acres-and I say "hanging out with the chickens" that exactly wat I was doing-playing chatting with them-feeding treats.... didn't know it was supposed to mean more than that?

Ok..there is a saying in our family that is something like this.

Someone says: " Whos out there?"
Answer: " Nobody but us chickens!"

Now where did that come from?

Ok .. It can mean a lot of different things.

Women hanging with their chickens, is like a hen fest ...
They have their friends over and talking up a storm, mostly gossip.

Men hanging with the chickens is like a rooster with his hens. Checking out all the women.

It can be interpreted in so many different ways.

a new term out is peeps ... meaning people or friends (my peeps)
We think of it as baby chicks ...lol
or Children think of marshmallow treats ...lol

Hope this helped some ...

SMILING!

That sounds like something he'd be thinking. Thanks! I was completely stumped.
