What does kicking fake egg out of nest mean ?

My 20wk BRs just started laying. We got 2 eggs first day, but only one next day (so the second chicken didnt lay for some reason).
First day both eggs were layed perfectly next to the fake plastic egg we have there.

Second day afternoon (when I should have gotten second egg of the day) I see that the fake egg was kicked out.
I put it back.

Third day(today) morning, again, the fake egg is kicked out of the nest box. But no egg in there.

Is there any reason why they are kicking out the fake egg and not laying ?

just means they are digging around in the box mine did that and pecked the fake egg and buried it too now that they are getting the hang of laying the egg stays in the box seldom buried or kicked out anymore
