One of the girls was awfully vocal this morning. Not sure what's going on, but I'm hoping that she was announcing her egg laying progress.

Surely someone here has a YouTube video of the egg song.

CACKLE! CACKLE! CACKLE!

Yay!!!

So this is a precursor to having some eggs. A couple of weeks from now?

They're still not "receptive" to our rooster's advances. That should come at one week or so prior to eggs?

Please forgive my nervousness/enthusiasm. I know this is probably boringly routine for ya'll, but I'm totally new to the chicken game.

Hi, I am eagerly awaiting "first eggs", too, but realistically, not until September. My two oldest girls are starting to look like "hens", and I expect that when they start laying, they will really settle down. . . the two younger ones (3-4 weeks younger) are still in that awkward "teenage" stage, where they are not only physically immature, but mentally ditzy, as well! This too shall pass!

I hope you get eggs soon! It's SO much fun collecting, and I have to say I enjoy it just as much now as I did when I first got chickens!

I have had a few in years' past that sang the egg-laying song constantly, even as juveniles. So, I never knew for sure when they were ready to lay. So annoying!

sometimes a really loud scream thrown in! and can go on for an eternity...

Just for entertainment, DSO and I learned to sing the egg song, too. Okay, we're weird. But, it's fun! Sort of like learning your first words in a new language. Talk chicken with us.
