rural feed stores seem to carry more things than city ones.

i appreciate your practical attitude about it. bringing it to their attention and then helping out. you are right, most places would have just gotten rid of her and not spent an hours worth of time trying to soothe and help her.

crushing up the tablet seems like a good place to start. it certainly can't hurt at this point.

There is no Tractor Supply in MA, I've already looked...I got PenG at Ventura Grain in Taunton...it's right off of Rte 24 South...You could also try the Bridgewater Farm Supply.
I still have almost a full bottle of PenG from my hen's bumblefoot...I'd have to check the expiry date.
I've had ear infections and they hurt like heck! Poor baby. I'm so glad that they're letting you treat her.

If you can't find ear drops, here is a solution you can use from things you have at home. 1/2 peroxide, 1/2 alcohol solution. I have had a ton of ear infections and this is a great solution, if you can't get the drops.

I had a silkie get the same thing. The vet had me use ear flush like you use on a dog twice a day, plus medicated ear drops x2 a day and oral amoxacilian(sp)100mg. 2x a day for 14 days. Worked like a charm! He also told me that it is contagouis. But nobody else in my flock ever got it.

HELP

I got some Terramycin from Agway today.
I need help figuring out how much to add to a gallon or quart of water.

If I want 600 mg in a gallon of water and the package says contains 10 grams of oxytetracycline HCL
BUT the package also says 181.4g new weight

When they say 600 mg in a gallon is that based on 10 grams in a package or 181.4 grams.

As I don't have a small scale, what would really be most helpful is if anyone can tell me how many teaspoons to put in a gallon

Thanks
