I noticed that one or both of my Buff Laced Polish hens appear to have a pecking injury above their beaks and while examining them I noticed what appears to be irritated skin and nodules of some sort. Are these nodules inflamed follicles or whatever the opening is that the feathers emerge from? Do I need to do anything for this or just keep an eye on them?

Polish hens have a V comb. Sometimes it it's separated and looks like nodules. Yours looks like their comb. Mine have very red combs usually but they are youngish.almost 2 I think lol

Thanks for the info. I didn’t even think about that being the start of the comb but that makes perfect sense since the others girls (different breeds) are just starting to grow theirs. I thought maybe the Polish hens didn’t have combs due to their fancy hair doos. 😉

Not a very flattering shot of Annie so here’s one of her and her sister Billy before their feathers started falling out where it appears they may be growing their combs?
