What does this noise mean?

Just curious, while sitting in the coop, one of my birds named pepper was sitting on my shoulder and she would occasionally make a noise that sounded like a combination between a purr and a chirp, when another one of my birds heard this she would sometimes relay a similar noise. Is she just happy or am I dead wrong?

Hard to say what it really 'means',
I try not to ascribe human emotions to birds behaviors,
but generally it's a sound heard when they are calm...so maybe 'contentment'.
When I hear the chicks doing this as they settle into sleep at night, I call it 'bedtime stories'.
