Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

How old is this boy you call rooster? How is your current weather? Is that the front or back of the legs? How about a full shot of the bird standing please?

I very often see boys get red legs in the back when hormones are raging, which is what I suspect... though there are of course other possibilities... lets start basic and go from there. :)

Hope all is actually well! :fl

Welcome to BYC. That looks like the normal pink coloring in legs of a healthy rooster. Certain colors of legs will get pink like that when the chicken (even in hens) is fertile, but it varies in each breed. It is more common in light skin breeds.

I also noticed this in my BO rooster. He is young still (9 months old), but is otherwise healthy and acting normal. No swelling and the red is even on both legs. No other bird of mine has this either, and he is my only BO. I figured it was because he was SO light compared to all my other chickens are australorp, RIR and BPR. Good to know and I'm glad I didn't worry.

It usually indicates a surge in hormones in an otherwise healthy looking young male.
I am relieved thats all this is.. I never had a BO so I never saw it since the other roosters I have had were always been very dark in color. I figured he was ok because he was acting himself, but it's good to have confirmation for sure ! :D
Glad I stumbled across this post!

At that age we call them young boys cockerel and the don't get the designation rooster or cock until after 1 year old. Likewise the ladies are called pullet until one year old and then hen thereafter. Just for technical info, since I love all the learning that goes on here and because when diagnosing something it *can* be very relative. :old In my experience they still haven't TRULY matured even at the age of one. But when chatting at home or with others who really don't know, we still just say roo. ;)

Yes, in my experience, what you are seeing... in an otherwise healthy acting/looking bird...eating, drinking, pooing, hanging out with usual flock mates.. completely normal. :)

Many actually have the same concern at first, including me.. Good for you for keeping your eyes open and being aware of any changes! That will take you far in caring for your birds. :highfive:

Glad you did too! :yesss:

It can be scary when your not 100% sure. :hmm

Even when I'm pretty sure, I still try to stay aware of any change. ;)
