What DONT your chickens like

I have 22 hens and 2 Roosters. They are all picky scrap eaters and most of the stuff I've read that other peoples chickens won't eat mine won't either. I find the bread thing very funny. My chickens favorite food is bread but not white bread. I hand feed my roosters bread and toss the hens bits at a time. Their favorite is flax buns and I figure it has to be good for them. I read once that if you give chickens a 10% diet of flax seed they will produce omega 3 eggs. I also read from a very old chicken lady that chickens won't eat mushrooms if they are poisoneous and that they can eat hot spicy food because they don't taste the heat in it. I don't know about that because like onions I don't want a funny taste in my eggs so I don't feed it to them.

That is a great point about flax seeds, you are right, they add omega 3 fatty acids to your eggs which of course is a good thing.

Also if you are concious of omegas then you can feed your babies some cod liver oil. Add some to their water, but not the main source in case they do not like it put in a separate bowl. This is passsed on to your eggs and makes them even more healthy.

You can also sprout flax seeds this will serve as double duty, it increases their size, adds more vitamins and protien, and they love the sprouts.

Thank you for the advice. I will try them. Although I live in Northern British Columbia so it will be awhile before I could grow flax sprouts but I will try that in the spring. I would also like to try the cod liver oil and see how they like it. Because it is so cold here I give them warm water twice a day and it keeps their laying production up. I got 22 eggs today but one was from one of my turkeys, so I still have a couple chickens that arent laying steadily. I average 20 eggs a day since it warmed up a few weeks ago.

they dont like lettuce, tomatoes, papaya, or cheese.

One pretty neat thing I saw was my flocked devoured a green mango that fell prematurely from a tree, skin and all. Seed looked like skeletal remains.

dbjay417, where do you live that you have mangos falling from your trees. I was in Mexico and ate a ripe one that fell from the tree.

I never thought of mango seeds, thanks.

This is becoming what do your chickens like topic. So far mine seem to like anything I throw at 'em They did leave the cucumber skins, and most skins.

Mine love bagels and any kind of bread, I only give them a little of that.

I thought citrus was a nono

Gotta love these chickies
