I have khaki campbells, pekin and coyuga right now. None have gone broody. My turkeys are reproducing themselves great, but not ducks.

Thinking of changing breeds to a duck that will get large enough for meat, free range well, and reproduce themselves.
EDIT - I should have said no muscovies, they did not get along with any other birds. I did not like them either. Sorry guys, I know they are popular here.

Muscovies are pretty broody. I've also heard good things about Welsh Harlequins.

Well if you rule out muscovies, look at breeds NOT known for egg production [you can't lay huge numbers of eggs if you go broody since that puts you out of egg production for about 2 months.

I say Welsh harlequins. I have some but they are still young and have not gone broody yet. But I will let you know if I get a broody from them.

If you don't want to use an incubator, then I suggest you keep some silkie chickens to hatch eggs for you. They'll set at the drop of a hat and do a good job of hatching duck eggs.
