I used the Rooster Booster because it's a 20% protein feed and I thought it had animal protein. I'm kind of upset about it now because I did catch one of my hens pulling out a beak full of feathers out of one of my young pullets and eating them. That's why I went looking for more. I'm on my second bag of the stuff and the feathers around some of my EE's necks seem fluffier and curled nicely but not seeing anything grow in the bald spots yet. I think I'm just going to continue on this feed indefinitely as long as animal protein is still in the ingredients. It's $5 more per 50 lb bag but oh well. I also feed fodder so I'm not too concerned about too much protein and a bag will last around 2 weeks. If the coop/run starts to get stinky I might have to rethink it again.
My feed store hasn't carried Purina game bird with animal protein for like two years. FM Brown's is in Birdsboro/Fleetwood PA. You gotta be careful though, as even Brown's has jumped on the veg/natural bandwagon & sell a more expensive feed to back yarders. They used to have a Game bird breeder pellet that was 18% protein that my birds do well on.
The Brown's Website just shows Encore Natural Layer Booster and advertises Plant Protein only. Corn and soy meal are the first two ingredients. This could be bad if they switched...JJ
