what type of feed do you guys feed. I decided on purina layena but i see it is availible in Pellets or Crumbles. What do you prefer

Pellets. Much less waste.

I don't use Purina products, nor do I provide layer feed. My flock gets Nutrena All Flock pellets and I keep crushed oyster shell in a separate container, free choice. The layers take it if they need it.

My flock has birds of all ages, and I don't want the youngsters to get too much calcium before they need it. Plus, I have ducks and geese in the flock, so All Flock is perfect for 'em.

Pellets it is. Going to get my first bag tomorrow and a few last details on the coop and hope to pick up my chickens sunday

x2 Thats what I use, but down here I have to special order it. Not even the local dealers listed on their web site carry it and only one orders it for me. It's worth the extra trouble cause my hens prefer it and the eggs taste better. I switched one time to Manna Pro Flock raiser and my customers complained that the eggs flavor was a bit off.

I don't get a choice of brand since my feed store only carries one organic brand but definitely prefer pellets. They can still eat it easily after they knock it out of the feeder.

I've always preferred the crumbles, but when I discovered that my feed store charged more for the crumbles, I switched to pellets.

Fortunately, my chickens didn't mind eating the pellets, so now that's what they get.

We recently moved to KY and found out the organic feed here costs twice as much as the non-organic feed.

So now I'm back to feeding non-organic feed.

But whenever I drive back to VA, I stock up on the organic feed.
