What fresh foods do you give your chooks.

I have recently grated (mix master) a heap of couliflower stalks and leaves for our hens. I have given them some fresh. I am wondering if others cook their chooks (hens) food or give it to them fresh? I give mine some in the form of a bird muffin - bird goodies for our rescue birds, pellets, egg shell etc... With grated veg and all sorts of cheap bulk wholesome flours. I have a good source of left overs from our local green grocers and am wondering what is the best way to serve it up to the ladies (hens)
Our girls are ex batteries and deserve only the best - on a budget!

they get a quart of mixed sprouts every week.

Ah - that is something else I do. I don't understand what a quart is but I sprout for our rescue birds and give the chooks a couple of handfuls each day, when I am rinsing the sprouts. Thanks
