What gender? 3 Rescued chickens. Unknown breed and age

Now that I can tell them apart a bit better, here’s #1 who is the biggest and most upright and has small spur bumps.. And #3 for comparison. I guess I’m just skeptical they are all hens because why did someone dump 3 purebred hens?

They are sweet chickens and doing well

Some people hit hard times. Perhaps they got evicted, divorced or had severe financial crisis hit them. There are a lot of reasons people get rid of pets.
Dumping them to fend for themselves is horrible but happens.

My sister who is more experienced with chickens then I am also says they are all hens. Well they are very nice chickens and will have a excellent home with my friend. I’m amazed how tame and calm they are.

I’m devastated. This evening one of the rescue hens disappeared and I’ve looked all over and there is no sign of her. I moved the remaining 2 into a hardware cloth cage which is totally predator proof. I just feel like such a failure. She was such a sweet trusting hen. I wanted her to have a safe happy life. I’m holding out a glimmer of hope she’ll show up in the morning, but I’m afraid a mongoose got her.

You did not fail them, their previous owner did.

And even if she might have been taken by a predator while ranging, you managed to save 50% of the abandoned birds, so well done!

I'm so sorry. I hope she is rotating in a tree somewhere but @LaFleche is right - you have done a kindness to an animal that needed help.

They all appear to be hens. How lucky! I only get roosters dropped of at my place.

She’s ok!! As soon as I woke up I heard her outside and she is totally fine and safe. So relieved. I know I’ve had these chickens less than a week but I couldn’t stand the thought of something happening to her!

I'm so glad she's back! They are so easy to get attached to. When my husband said he wanted chickens, I was underwhelmed. But I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy their company
