What gender and type of chicken do you think this little floof is?

It is very true and he's so cute.. I need to stop naming them such girly names.. Maybe I'm jinxing it!

We always pick two names for the chicks; one male and one female. The kids like that

I recommend to everybody "especially ones with kids" not naming chicks until the are 6 months old. Nor getting attached to them until 6 months.

Looks like a cockerel. As for the breed, I'm not 100% sure, but looks like an Isa Brown.

I could NEVER DO THIS! if I got any cockerels in my feed store chicks (some how I didn't9 pullets) (I actually had to find a cockerel) I would just start a rooster flock!

At 5 weeks that is definitely a cockerel. Where did you get him? He is the wrong colour for a male red sex link (ISA Brown etc) so I would guess that his mother was probably a red sex link and he is a cross or second generation.

Do you have any pullets? 6 cockerels are going to wreak havoc when they hit adolescence and even if you had 30 pullets to go with them, there is likely going to be injury and certainly stress to the girls. Putting the males in a separate pen (bachelor pad/rooster flock) before their hormones kick in (14-15 weeks) would be a wise move if you are going to keep them all. Even then, you may have fights break out.
