what GENDER is my chicken?

i let them breed naturally and i wait for at least a month after they start mating, then i check a few eggs before i cook them and if they are fertile i incubate.

Pullet. A female chicken under 1 year old.
Hen. A mature female chicken.


Cockerel. A male chicken under 1 year old.
Rooster. A male chicken; also called a "cock."

It's a cochin male. He'll probably be too young for effective breeding until 6 months or more (it takes practice and time to convince established hens that it's worth their time).

Just give him time, and check your eggs when you crack them over the griddle in the morning. Once you start seeing bullseyes, it's time to start making grand baby chicken plans.
