What gender is my EE? HELP!---NEW PICS---

There wouldn't be any spurs at that age, anyway. Cockerels rarely get any real spurs before about 8-9 months old. Note: the cockerel I posted above has no spurs, either. However, I currently have two hens with spurs, so that isn't the best way to ID a cockerel.

Well I was glad to read several comments about EEs being larger birds. I thought orpingtons were supposed to be bigger than EEs (although maybe it depends on what was mixed to get them), but my (not so) little EE is the largest of my tiny flock. So I've kind of been thinking "Well...maybe she's actually a rooster..." Always good info on here...

Fritzee - You said that the pictures you posted are a couple of weeks old - Can you post a current picture of this EE? Does the comb look the same or is it larger now?

Your EE is about 11 weeks old in the photo - my EEs didn't get a comb that large & pink until they were at least 16 weeks old - I'd love to see what it looks like now, at 13 weeks.

It looks like my little Lakenvelder pullet is starting to sprout spurs. Glad to hear of other girls with spurs.

Looks like your girl is a boy. The comb really sprouted! I've had that happen on occasion, one I pegged as a pullet with a pullet-y comb then, almost overnight, it was wide and red. The thing is that he now is showing those saddle feathers that were not apparent previously. Almost doesn't look like the same bird!

Hey, I don't feel so bad....even Jean said girl!

Say it isn't so! I didn't think her comb was THAT much bigger than her "sisters'" Take a look at this pic... She has a pea comb, unlike my other birds.

My 18 week old Ameraucana pullets never had a comb that big and red. This is one of those "I'm a girl! NO, I'm a boy..no, girl, no, boy" ones. Sorry. Sure did come out bigtime since your first pics were taken.

Yep - I thought it was a cockerel before, but now there is no doubt whatsover. Besides the large comb, his coloring/pattern is also common to EE boys.

His comb doesn't look that large to you, because it is a pea comb - pea combs don't get tall like the straight comb your barred rock has. Most EEs don't get wattles either.
