WHAT GENDER-New Photos- I have to make a decision

100% a roo - no young pullet will crow. It's usually only the mature hens that do.

Sorry

My neighbors and i have come to an agreement that ill keep my roosters from crowing when they keep their dogs from barking.

But in all seriousness-if its a good home for him, explain how fond you are of him and ask for some pics from time to time. As an animal lover, i can tell you that would be a very simple request for me to oblige. You may find out he became the best rooster his new home has ever seen!

:hugs: i hope you find some peace with this,i wpuld be devatsated if i had to part with my boys :(

Thank you everyone for your replies, and for your understanding.

I admit I cried when I read them- and I am a mature(old) person.

I have spend countless hours sitting with "Chicken" and I love him so much. My best times are when I come to sit with him
and he does that happy bird, shake/wriggle of the tail and then plops himself in my lap and stretches out just as much as he can and rests.

As for my neighbors- they built several hundred homes around me- and being in a canyon the sound carries.
Even though they bought a house knowing they are right near a horse ranch somebody is bound to complain.

I will see if the lady will send me photos from time to time.

The OPs bird is 100% rooster. The comb, hackle and saddle feathers, the gold leakage coming in on the hackle feathers, plus the crowing are all male sign. Yes, female birds CAN crow, but it's older, dominant hens or hens with hormonal issues, not young birds like this one is. I'm glad you have a good home lined up for him, think how happy he will be with a bunch of hens!
