Hi all, I’m just wondering what gender is more common in your loft as my loft is female dominated. When I was breeding fantails, out of all the offspring I only had a male and 5 or 7 females which is very large difference. Whist with my original pair (King hen, Fancy Cock bird), in a batch there was always a male and female. I’m wondering why this is?

My loft definitely has more cock birds, but it is a relatively small loft, and I only started it about 18 months ago. I don't think this gender ratio occurs for any good reason though. I still think that over a long enough time if you looked at most lofts it would generally be a 50:50 male:female ratio.

I am not sure but I am guessing male I have one male (as he has no mate) that brings home feral females at some pigeon bar when he is released. He is an unruly teenage and likes to stay out at night and arrive hung over in the morning. I do not want a feral in my loft and one catch and release to traumatize the feral will always end female visits to my loft.

In my old coop I always had too many females. The females would all pair up though.. and the few males would mate with them all so I still got fertile eggs.

I lost most of my flock to disease about one year ago. Now I only have a few bird and they are 4 males and one infertile female!!!! I have just got a new female for one male bird.
