what happen????Silkie comb Q

My partridge silkie come from hattrick lines on both side rooster and hen some how ended up with a single comb is this a trait that has come out from far back or what???????

I believe I have heard that the single comb is recessive in silkies, so it would have had to gotten the gene from both parents. I have been told they shouldn't be used for breeding.

No matter how great the lines you will tend to throw an occasional fault when two with the same recessive gene are bred together.

Did you buy birds or eggs directly from HatTrick? If not, there is a good possibility your seller was being dishonest. MANY people are promoting their silkies as being from HatTrick and very few of those really are. They just know HatTrick sells well so trying to get a decent bid. You can also e-mail HatTrick to see if the person you bought eggs or birds from has ever bought things off of them.

But, anyway, yes, both the male and female had to carry the gene for a single comb in order for you to hatch one. I get rid of every single comb I get, which is very few and only in my buffs. I know there are several peope who do not care, as I have sold single combed birds to breeders before.

I understand that the single combs have higher fertility than mulberry combs and some breeders keep a small percentage of single comb genes in their flock just for that reason. I would be more ticked about a red comb than a single comb. A single comb can be bred over by a homozygous mulberry comb in a single generation, not bred "out" but at least made invisible, while a red or off color comb can just ruin things for years.

there from hattrick my friend bought them couple years ago from them..
