2 evenings ago I noticed our Welsummer didn't high up on the perch, instead she used the low one (under the nest box, it's there for when we have meat birds).
Yesterday she only wanted to be in the nest box, didn't go out free ranging like our other hens. She didn't eat much and it was obvious that she wasn't feeling well. Last night she didn't go on the roost at all. I made a nest box for her on the floor but she didn't use it at all. I did find a white poop, almost looked like cream. We are not on a area where a vet or anything is available (central Yukon, Canada).I did some research on the forum and didn't read anything promessing. This morning I found her dead on the floor.
She may have laid an egg yesterday. There was one under her that got broken but the color of the shell made me think it could have been from her.
No she won't get an autopsy of anykind. My older daughter asked to save aome feather and a wing and a foot. The rest is burried already.
Just trying to understand what happened. No external injuries of any kind. She wasn't at the top of the pecking order but there was always food and water available. The quality of her eggs was great. It went so fast and I don't know why...
The other hens are all looking good.
She was 4 or 5 years old.
Any idea what happened?
