What happened?

I'm not sure of the appropriate thread for my question, but since it was food related, I figured I'd ask here.

My wife boiled 2 fresh eggs the other day. When she opened the first one, it was fine. The second one, however, looked like this:

Anyone have a clue as to what happened?
 
I'd say it had a good sized blood spot, and that's cooked blood, though of course I can't be sure. It happens with backyard eggs, just as other odd things happen from time to time. It would have been fine to eat it -- if you could handle the idea of that. We're accustomed to buying eggs which have been checked so the "mistakes" aren't sold.
