I didn't hold mine the first few cays of their lives but after that I held them on my chest for atleast 5 minutes a days since. they're now 3 and 4 wks old and Iv got some spoild chicks that love me and love to be held.

They get used to human contact. Some say it helps make a more docile flock, especially helpful if you need a tame roo. Good luck! :)

Just a suggestion, I find that the folks here are better able to respond if you can provide some more info along with your question. What are your concerns exactly?

i've held mine several times a day since the i brought them home. there very spoiled but very tame, and love to be held . they love their 10 min power naps, and make the most lovely chirping noises .not sure if it was the right thing being brand new to back yard chicken keeping my self i just wanted gentle chickens, and it seemed like the right thing to do. good luck !

Nothing, other than you're getting them used to being handled by humans. And that's a good thing!

I have young siblings and they hold the chicks the day after I get them. The chicks are never scared and my siblings are very gentle. I don't think there is such a thing as holding a chick to much:)

I hope gentle holding and attention is ok. I got my very first flock as a gift just a few days ago! We got 7 hens and 1 rooster. The first day they were here they were only held by my adult children while I got the brooder ready. But 2 days later the grandkids came. A 6 and 7 year old. I have let them spend time holding the chicks as they are very gentle with them. But they have done this for hours taking turns with the chicks. My grandson sat last night with the rooster on his finger and watched an entire movie. The bird just sat there on his finger and so did he. Will this much holding hurt them?

I don't think you can hold them too much. I have 2 silkie chicks and a cochin chick and I love to hold them. They let me know when they are done. As long as you are gentle with them, you're fine.
