Solved What happens when someone else takes over an older thread

The new person accumulates many , many more posts and likes etc. While the totals are attributed to the person who started the original thread.

This seems totally unfair to me but, I'm sure the supporters don't agree.

The OP doesn't get 'points' for the 'totals' in the thread.

How does one 'take over a thread?'

Not your same concern but I think that after a certain length of time without any new posts that the old threads should be locked. I don't know how many times I have seen 6 to 10 year old threads revived for one new post offering advice to a poster who is no longer active on BYC and the issue posted about has been resolved years ago.

I disagree.
I found an old thread just yesterday that someone new posted on and the original poster came back and replied to.

I think @drumstick diva means that while a question is being answered somebody asks their own question and then people ignore the original question to ask their own...? For example, maybe in a “none of my eggs hatched” thread somebody might post their own question like “how do I keep my humidity up” and then the attention gets directed to that question and the thread gets “taken over”. I think.

OH..this makes sense to me.
Someone should point that new question poster to start a new thread.
Sometimes people are new and don't quite understand how forums work.

A nice reminder and an exact link to start a new thread is a nice fix.

No I guess I didn't make myself clear. I'll try an example. Say there is/was a thread
called "Grandma" and the OP get replaced by someone else. Thread is still called "Grandma "and original OP is getting the post count," like 'count etc. Astronomical totals for a thread that was continued/ TAKEN OVER just 2 years ago. What I am trying to say, is when someone new takes over - the counts should start at 0.

The OP does not get like points and posts counts unless she actually posts.
