What has been the best (life) advice anyone has ever given you?

Nick: only dead fish go with the flow

Dad: It's all good, just relax and it will pass.

Mom: Every experience, even bad ones are meant for us to learn from. also try to learn from other people's experiences

Brothers: Mom and Dad taught all of us to walk and talk. now all they want us to do is sit down and shut up!

Sister: DON'T GET PREGNANT! (best advice ANYONE could give a young lady!)

Grandpa: eat your vegetables, leave my "shrooms" alone!

Grandma: Grandpa is a F***ing hippie. don't turn out like him!

best friend Robby: Don't carry your eggs in a basket across the road if you can't count your chickens!.... wait... nevermind...

Glen: Thomas is an Idiot (also good advice)

Janessa: Hunting is good for the soul ONLY when you eat what you killed.

EDIT: i've seen so much good advice from you guys so far! keep it comin', i'll be reading!

"The sun will still come up tomorrow"--my dad reminding us our concerns are insignificant and won't impact the universe. Very comforting!!
Also, "Don't let worries about the future rob you of present joy" Don't know where I saw this, but it is good advice.

Get your diploma!!!

Always walk on the sunny side of the street.

If you don't want to do the job right, then don't do it at all.

Remember, the sun is ALWAYS shining, it's just sometimes hidden by the clouds...

I saw this on a bulletin board in a highschool classroom. I wrote it down many years ago.

If you always do what you always did
You will always get what you always got

And for the moms of teenagers( not exclusively)

Fall in love with your children again
wait until the house goes to bed and go in and sit with them asleep. Be grateful and think about all the things you love about them- so peaceful, quiet, angelic. Love them.

I'm going to try this tonight with my particularly difficult 13 year old son with ADHD

Thank you for this. I read through this entire thread twice to find it again. I have been using this one daily but wasn't exactly sure of the wording. Love it!

There are two that comes to my mind instantly that I heard more than once growing up.

My dad would always tell me "Kill them with kindness" when someone was mean to me. It always worked great.. and I made many friends over the years by just being nice, even when the situation called for kicking butt.

My Grandmother probably gave me the best advice though. "Learn when to keep your mouth shut!" Now that was a tough one!

My Grandpa....one of the smartest old time farmers/native americans I will ever meet I am sure, told me when I was a kid... I will give a man a crutch, but I wont hold it up for him. Took me many years to understand that one...but it is now my main way of thinking.

Sorry...I didn't read thru all of them and I'm sorry if this one has been mentioned but now more than ever, it means the most to us.
God will not put on you more than you can handle.
