Hey guys, And sorry for creating so many threads I just have a lot of questions lately that require the community. I was planning on getting some SSH’s for my flock. I researched a bit about them and the general statement is they are flighty and don’t do well in confinement.

I have lots of space for them to Roam on (1 Acre) so the confinement part is np, But different people say that they are flighty and impossible to tame, And others say that they are the sweeest chickens they own.

So I just came here for opinions and facts, But anyways thanks for your reply’s.

SSH?

I have never had the SS ones, I had golden penciled. My baby sister has had a few SS and silver penciled.

Both of our experiences have been the same. Good layers, and yes flighty. But I don't see that as a bad thing.

My sister had a SSH go broody. And one day a big snake came up to eat the chick she had hatched. She actually attacked that snake, and never backed down, eventhough the snake kept biting her (not venemous). She did survive.

Anyway, some great instincts in those birds (they rarely go broody though). Good foragers and I think that flighty nature does reduce predation just a touch. I do think they might tend to like to hide eggs more than more mellow breeds, but if you keep your eye out, not too hard to track down.

I guess flying could be a good thing because i would probably like watching them fly around, Predation probably isint a problem because i have no predators were i live. Thx for the info
