Hello! My name is Dallas and I’m a first time chicken owner! I have had my first brood of chicks for about 3 weeks now and I love those fluffy butts. I ordered 20 chicks from Hoover’s Hatchery, 5 of each of the following: Buff Orpington, Americana, Black Jersey Giant (my daughter’s choice), and Bielefelder. I chose these breeds specifically for their temperament, dual-purpose egg production and meat production, and egg size/colors. Unfortunately, one of my Bielefelder chicks did not survive the night after I received them, however the others are happy and healthy! My neighbor added two beige Silkies to my brood, so I’m at a total chick count of 21!! I might be crazy to start with so many
I’m excited to watch them grow into their feathers and personalities!

Excited to be a new member of this community and looking forward to gleaning knowledge and tips from all of your collective experiences!

You are not alone, first time chicken owners here as well.. ordered 16, they sent 17, & then we picked up 4 more from TSC the other day, totaling a whopping 21 for us beginners! Hatchery batch is 2 weeks old today, & the little ones 3 days! I would love to hear your plans for coop & run!
