What have you done for your chickens today?

Mine all got bread scraps today. 1 run of mine (the Easter Eggers) got a can of mackeral yesterday and they loved it. Got 8 eggs yesterday.

Mine got plates of warm oatmeal with Mozzarella cheese and yogurt.

Warmed up some egg nog, diluted with skim milk, and gave them a bowl of warm eggnog mash late tonite, along with a clean coop, nest and run, and clean water to go with their head of romain lettuce (hung in run) and a large whole squash.

I gave them a can of tuna. They were at it like a pack of dinosaurs! I try to give them treats in the morning to warm them up and again before bed. They don't really seem to care that it has been below 0 at night. I let them free range the back yard, but there isn't much to eat except what I feed them. No sign of hawks of falcons. My guess is, they are afraid of our dogs.

I gave mine BOSS and Spinach leaves (hand fed so they could tear the leaves properly, otherwise they can't seem to swallow them properly and just leave them). Little piglets. Then I let them run around the yard for about an hour. Tomorrow they're getting some blueberries, more yard time, and whatever other treats I can think of.

Oh, and I waved the plans for our new coop under DH's nose.

I noticed today that half of my hens got a touch of frostbite on their combs.

I attached a 250 watt infrared bulb with heavy bailing wire to get them through the night. They had plenty of ventilation, but too much humidity along with single digit temps. I'm not gonna take any chances as the snow was melting today and forecast for -4 tonight.

They got the leftover spaghetti and thought they were eating delicious worms! What a commotion! They also got BOSS and scratch along with their regular food.
