What have you done for your chickens today?

Moabite,

I think you got it wrong....I think the KFC was FOR the chickens and you'd be lucky if they shared with YOU.....

Just sayin'

I took mine out some left over collard greens and a few other scraps. They will get some wild bird seed and their regular allotment of
layer pellets.
My chickens really love table scraps. They will deviour them instantly.

I did alot for the chickens today: I finally installed the adult size and height and length roost. They didn't know what to do with all the room and ended up in 2 tight little groups on either end, lol. (Went from 2 short ones to one long one). I added poop tables under the new roost. I took out one nest box they weren't using and fixed up the 2 I want them to use. Right now they lay in a corner on the floor of the henhouse. I added a dust bath bin and filled it with leftover seed starting dirt mixed with fireplace ashes and with DE. I cleaned up around the hen-house. I added a layer of straw and DE.

I put my birds on a diet. They've had to much scratch in the past. Now I'm giving them on 20oz can a day to share between the 6 of them. I want them to eat more Layena. They still get dibs on kitchen scraps cause the dogs don't lay eggs. They got steak scraps yesterday, but my kids wont get stake again for a long time. Hot dogs maybe.

We're having a pretty bad blizzardy storm with high winds. The plastic around my run is taking a beating plus the snow was sifting in from the gable north end so I've been in and out all day stapling up more plastic and moving some that was blowing off on the outside to the inside of the run, bringing treats etc. I had put about 6 inches of nice warm dry straw in the run and it all got snowed on except for right under the coop. Three birds stayed out all day and 2 were in. It is just a terrible day and supposed to get extremely cold tomorrow with windchills to -35 and then Monday night down to -18 to -22.

Took the three hens out of the hospital cage today. Gooped them up with my latest anti-pick ointment experiment then put them back in their tractors. Two of them were badly pecked so I wanted to give them a chance to heal up. They've got new feathers growing back to replace what they lost and we've got our coldest prediction for the season coming up for Monday night so I want them back with their sisters so they can stay warm.

Everything else was just the usual daily chores.

Gave them some broccoli stalks and BOSS. Cleaned their poop board and threw some fresh shavings on top of things in the coop. Similar to what I do every day for them

You guys in the mid west have it rough right about now. Clairabean has us all beet though. I've only given them the 'old maids', never popped it just for them.
