dBF knows the incubator is running, however he doesn't know I filled it the the max with 39 eggs. He also knows we have a broody cochin sitting on eggs. 11 eggs to be exact!

Slippers (the broody Cochin) is on day 7 and I'm on day 4 with the bator full. I risked life and limb to candle the eggs under slippers the night before last. The 2 I managed to get my hands on looked good. Growing and veining good. I candled the bator yesterday on day 3. I looked at about 10 of the eggs that I could see through. Uh-oh. All 10 were developing including the refridge eggs and washed eggs(I was TRYING to get a bad hatch). I was kind of hoping for (and relying on) a sucky hatch rate!

Lets just not tell dBF the 'Test Hatch' isn't failing yet!

ETA: The bator full is an Olive Egger roo over Olive egger hens and cochinXolive egger hens

Slippers is sitting on 11 of her own eggs crossed with an Olive Egger roo.

Tell him you dont know what happened the egg fairy must have known how good you have been and left you eggs in the incubator instead of a quarter under your pillow.

I like the name slippers.

lol, my batorwas off......got dh to finally sign off on ducks so I got a dozen.......then figured since it was running I'd get sumatra (2 different people) and another 2 dozen cayuga.....and a few d'anvers....oh, and a dozen calls showed up today

I am gonna be so busted if more than a quarter hatch....already have 6 brooders and turned my wood screen house into an infirmary....

Lol. That's funny. I do that, I have 3 goose eggs in the incubator on day 9 with my 11 nearly due chocolate orpingtons, and has only just noticed them. I am hatching the geese for a friend, he was so relieved. Unfortunately he took delivery of 6 blue jersey giants I ordered and hadn't mentioned. Oops, too late now

Slippers is one MEAN broody! She was even trying to maul my hand when I candled the eggs the other night. She couldn't even see me, just blindly attacking me! This is the 3rd or 4th time she's gone broody since I've had her, but only the first I've actually had fertile eggs and a rooster so thats probably why she doesn't want anything happening to her eggs!

We joked around about naming her babies 'Socks' 'Moccasins' and 'Sneakers'!

klf73: Ducks are awsome! We went and picked some up (I usually dont ask because its usually a 'no' or 'we really dont need more pets!' but the ducks were the first things I ever consulted with him on!)
Here I am with more ducklings in the mail. He thinks its 3-4 ducklings but I think its going to be more like 10!!! (minimum order, right?!!) I have yet to try and hatch duck eggs. I think if I ended up doing that I would be overrun with ducks! If I have trouble turning the bator off then duck eggs go in next! and I would have to sell ALL the chicks i'm expecting now so dBF doesn't have the PG&E turned off! ...Oh wait, I pay the PG&E!

He'd probably compramise and stop cutting all the firewood I want for winter though. Haha!

I love my olive eggs too, and especially the birds themselves! I'm like a little kid on Easter going to collect eggs everyday! I'm very fond of the f1 lighter olive colors. And the speckels! I'd kill to have a whole flock of speckley-olive-egg laying hens!!

Btw the girls are: Cajun Chicken and Parmesan Chicken. The Daddy is Chicken Alfredo and the brown layer is Chicken Piccata.
