What hens for silkie rooster?

My orp has 5 hens and my BCM has 3 (two BCMs and an EE)but we’re getting more and the silkie has none.

From your stock list, the EE hen would be a good candidate for the cross.

The females might gravitate towards the other males, especially the boy that has crowed. You mentioned that the silkie cockerel doesn't really act like a male. How many females are you planing on getting?

2 Barred Plymouth Rock hens, both laying, Sarah, 28 weeks old, and Hocus Pocus around 2 years


1 Dominque pullet, laying, Winifred, 28 weeks


1 Black Copper Maran rooster, not mating, Hei Hei, 24 weeks old


1 Blue Silkie rooster, not mating, Niblet, 24 weeks old


1 Easter Egger pullet, not laying, Jelly Bean, 24 weeks old


1 Lavender Orpington Roo, mating, Foghorn, 31 weeks old


2 Black copper Maran pullet, Mother clucker laying Chungus not laying, Mother Clucker and Chungus, both 31 weeks old


1 Buff Orpington pullet, not laying, Mrs. Priss, 28 weeks


1 Speckled Sussex pullet, not laying, Mae, 28 weeks.

I see. Let's hope that'll suffice. Just try and pick birds that would be OK with your biggest boy. Anything from other Orpingtons, to EEs, to Sussex

I'm voting Orpington and EE for best crosses with Silkie Roo. That could be some nice chickies. The Orpington might be too big but gentle. Oh I missed the Sussex. I'm with fluffy crow.

I still have all my hens and all of them lay and my two roosters the maran and Orpington but the silkie picked a fight with the Orpington and it ended badly. Right now they all are seeing their first snow
