What human sounds do chicks/chickens recognize easily?

I also yell, "I have treeeats!!" in a high pitched voice and they come rushing up to the door of their run waiting to attack me and my hands or the bucket I'm holding. Most times I can see them standing on a wooden ledge looking out, and once they see me approaching they'll be at the door in half a second. Why, one of my Red Stars will jump up if I keep my hand in a fist. Even if there's nothing inside she'll want to give my hand a little peck. She's also the same chicken that I'll be "bawk-bawk-ba-gawking" to and we'll have a whole chicken conversation while she eats her oats. It sounds nutty, I know

but so true! Anna, we are on the same wavelength! When my birds were younger or when I am raising youngsters, I have a rain stick that I shake, yell TREEEEEEEAT like Anna does, and toss something down for them. They get it pretty quickly! Now if they are free ranging they come chicken-running from afar when TREEEEEATS are called, or I used the rainstick! See?

Anna, how are the Wellies?
Dawn

The Wellies are doing well. Jetta has her butt feathers clipped because she seems to poop on them otherwise. I've cleaned her butt twice, and the vent is clean, no signs of mites or fleas or anything, just poop on the feathers, so I clipped them and "problem? what problem?". They squat for me and it's cute when I pet them and they fluff up afterwards. They both seem to be integrating better with the flock these days and are very productive layers. Great eggs! And a bit less noisy as well - which is nice. (For a while there I was threatening them with the crockpot if they didn't shut up.

I currently (if you include Mama Buffy and the 3 babies) have 11 chickens, which will be a bit much once the babies grow up. I have a friend who is just starting out with chickens and wants to start with layers. I was thinking the Wellies might be a good starter pair for him. Good eggs and easy birds to start with. He's a good guy. Already has the place and the coop picked out. He's building the run before he takes them, probably in mid-July, and has been asking all the right questions and reading the right websites (here). He's not very far away, so I can help him out with them at first.

Just thought I'd let you know, since you asked about them.

It really doesn't matter what sound you make as long as you make pretty much the same one every time you give the treats. They will associate the sound you make with the treats and come running when they hear you. My husband has his sounds he makes for the birds and I have mine. They come to either.

I call mine but saying

"PEEP PEEP CHIRP CHIRP" and they come-a-runnin!!!!!!!!! I also call them my "peepers" and they come to that too.

Thats exactly what I say! My 6 week olds are in their intermediate brooder. When they here my call, their heads go up, their necks stretch out, and their eyes light up... they know something interesting is about to arrive.

I usually say "chick chick chick chick!" or "Bock-bocks!" But honestly, if they hear the back door open, they come a-flyin', whether I have anything for them or not!

I don't make any sound either, and they all come running at the site of me, or sound of the door. It's actually annoying

Mostly because I have a couple of roosters that are not nice to my kids, so I have to keep my eye on them when they come..GRRR.... And then they will follow me around for awhile before giving up that I don't have anything for them.

this probally sounds really dumb but ive raised more chicks than i can count, but i roll my tongue and make a purrrrr.... like noise. like a pigeon lol they always respond nd evenually, if not right away mimic it. now everytime they cuddle against me they make that noise. as my dad says omg your chickens purr
