What hurt my poor girls?

Raccoons will reach through, weasels can get into VERY small spaces.

What type of wiring is it?? Do you have a picture of the coop. Maybe we can help point out spots that you can sure up to protect your flock.

Sorry but I'm going to need some batteries before I can get pic's on here. We don't have weasels here, We used chicken wire and then along the bottom we used plywood to keep our cat's dirty paws out. I can't believe how hard it is to lose a bird but now we're up to three in the last 4 days and there is still no obvious predator to protect them from

Holes In Chicken Wire Are Pretty Big! Big Enough For A Cat Or A Coon To Reach Thru, Hook A Leg And Pull The Bird Up Against Thewire. We Had A Problem With Hawks Here.... They'd Land On The Side Of The Cage And Grab Or Bite The Birds Thru The Wire---- Had To Cover The Pen With Hardware Cloth And Small Mesh Netting

In a set up like that it could bea predator or the roos harassing her so bad she freaked out flew around and bounced off stuff and in the process compound fractured her leg.

BTW if you live in teh US, no matter where you are im pretty sure you have raccoons they are opportunisitc lil brats

I really dont believe it was that though as you'd not have any birds left....and a snake wouldnt break legs.

I'd say roo harassment to the point of her freaking out and fighting to get away and in the process breaking her leg badly (yes they can break their own legs thier legs are like twigs one hard slam off the wire or frame and wammo...).

I dont knwo what you've done with her but she can be safed if she's a good hen you don't want to cull. Broken legs on birds heal FAST...however if she's got other injuries other than a broken leg then she may die from shock and infection. If a cat did get her, then she risks infection anyhow.

Also, sounds like you ahve way too many roos.

All of the roos are in the bachelor pen until I can get this figured out. The hens bones were sticking out of the skin and the vet said we couldn't splint it
