What I found in my box of Cheerios....

Yes, I would call them again. I'm sure they have opened an initial case file on you. Let them know you demand answers and hint at compensation for the mental anguish your family has been subject to. At least a few free items of their products would be nice.

Hello everyone, I'm new here on BYC and just had to post after reading this thread, first I might tell you I recently retired from the food industry after 16 years, position of Quality Manager. I believe that General Mills is taking this situation vey seriously, with the compitition being so tough in todays economy a company can not afford to over look these matters. I must say that most of the big name companies are audited very strictly, as they must have this in place in order to compete in todays market place. For the longest time the food industry was concerned with the safety of the products, today they have a new program that adresses both safety and quality of te products. You as a comsumer have the right to know if the company you choose is active with this program which is SQF(safe quality foods). If they are audited under this program they receive a score. If I was conerned with a product I would inquire about the practices of that producer. I must say that as a former Q.A. Manager I took every call extremely serious, addressed it in a timely matter, was very grateful to the consumer that took the time to bring the situation to our attention, I did a full investigation and took corrective action to prevent this same occurance in the future. We kept a trend report of problems stating the problem, what we did to address or correct and customers names and location to track problem areas. You might be surprised to learn also that when people find that they can get free products from a company they do take full advantage of this and pass the information on to friends and family as well. I encourage everyone to be active with reporting any problems they have with any product weather it is a safety or a 'quality problem. One last thing I must address is before we had all these issuse with our homeland security, we were ( and again I am speaking for my specific plant)able to do plant tours for the general public, including students, now this has gone by the wayside and our plant has 24 hour security guard at the entrance, also with keypads on every door.
Please call General Mills again if you have not recieved a call, and please keep us all informed. Another thing to remember is that we are all human, and although most everything is automated, breakdowns and human error do happen, all companies train, some better than others, some of the employees are better than others, most do care and consume the same products in which they are employed. As consumers you have a right to know about a company practices.
