I have 5 ducks, 6 weeks old. Today I dug them a little watering hole about 2 feet wide by 1 foot deep that they can climb easily in and out of. They have been in and out of it all day. What if they dont get out tonight? will they freeze? Night time lows of 40. They are so happy I can tell, but Im afraid they will stay in it all night.

if they have a place to go don't worry, they'll get out on their own. if not, go get them and put them in their shelter. ducks are not chickens and can take the weather.

They will be fine. I think we worry too much about the babies and forget that they adapt to nature. Mine are also in the water on the coldest nights and they are 4 and 5 weeks old. They know what to do! Enjoy!!

well, thanks! you were all right. Last night I saw that they got out of the water and sat on the bank, and this morning when i got up, they were just as they were yesterday, some in, some out, playing, splashing, still happy as ever. Its really funny, its a little mudhole that they have completely taken ownership of. They hadnt had anything but a caserole dish of water before this.

I think they'll be fine. Don't know what breed they are, but six weeks old is pretty big and self sufficient!

I have a six week old Black Swedish right now, and she's fully feathered, hasn't been under heat for weeks, and is pretty substantially sized. She's currently a house duck, because her hatch mate died, and I'm waiting to put her out with the 9 little ones I have in the brooder when they get big enough.

But honestly, if she had a friend to go out with, I'd turn her out in the duck enclosure and pond without a second thought.
