What in the world happened to this chicken? *Pictures*

MSiler, sorry for your loss :hugs, The electric fence is a good first deterrent but it looks as though the cage wire does not extend into the dirt at the bottom and this may be where the predator got their arms underneath in order to grab the unsuspecting bird. If I am mistaken then I am sorry. Please check this area to prevent this from happening to the rest of your flock. Good luck and once again, sorry for your loss

there is an upside to have weasels in your vicinity.
as long as your coop is tight and your chickens are safely locked inside at night.
a weasel hunts rodents mainly. so if you are located where mice and rats are known, the weasel will keep there population way down.
in fact the weasel may have came to your farm following rodent sent.
i have weasel here where i am. i dont actively try to eradicate them and have built my coop to keep them out.
in the last 20 years i have had trouble with two weasels that i caught in traps the next night.
another poster is haveing trouble with rats. she went to her coop at night and turned on the light and 30 rats went scurring for cover! Yuck, give me a neighborhood weasel or Mink any day!
glad you have not lost anymore of your birds!

We lost a chicken exactly this way from an osprey. We saw the bird on our girl and it stayed around for quite a while. I let my dog out after and she's good at birding so it didn't land again. The neck the only thing eaten and clean off.
How were your other chickens behaving after you found this girl? Ours were scared youknowwhatless!!
