What in the world is she doing?

Every time my duck sees me she bobs her head up and down. If I copy her she does it more. What is this? I wish someone would write a book on duck behaviorism!

My ducks do that to the drakes. And the drakes do it back. Then they mate. Lol! Maybe she thinks that you are her mate? I know it sould funny but it could very well happen. She could also be showing you how much she loves you.

Here's my take on it. I have girl duckies that do this.

It's a flirty, friendly, "hey, baby," kind of greeting. It's designed to get your attention. Kind of a flaunting, bold and brassy action.

It's cute

Sometimes they do this around drakes, too.

i have all girls and they do that to each other. It's some form of communication, although i've never figured out exactly what they're saying.

My girl ducks bob at the boy ducks, and frequently the drake will respond with bobbing. Then they get it on.

Girl ducks are real hussies, if you didn't know that.

To the best of my knowledge, it's almost always the girl that starts the bobbing, and my drakes have never "bobbed" at me. The girls have, however. When they bob at each other (the girls) I think they're telling secrets about the drakes.

That's my take on it, anyway.

My girl does that to me too. She seems to do it mostly when she first sees me after awhile. I'm not sure it's exclusively a mating thing as mine are only 3 months and haven't learned about the "ducks and bees" yet.

ha ha sorry baby - I already have a cockatiel who claimed me as his mate.... Im a one bird sorta woman.

Well i'm glad she isnt trying to dominate me or telling me to stay away.

I thought it took ducks about a year to become mature - she is only a couple months old, I guess she is an early bird.
