Update. The hen is doing great and putting on feathers like crazy. Now I have others going into molt too. Must be contagious, lol.

Good to hear! Yeah, it does seem like chickens like molting all together--I have several birds molting at once right now.

The hen the hawk killed had just finished molt and I was waiting for her to start laying again. The other is in molt now. So no eggs coming in for me.

Yeah molt sure makes them look ugly.... though the one the hawk got didn't follow the norm of ugly molt. She was filling in fast as she was loosing.

Good luck with the molt. I really don't get why they molt WHEN it is cold!!!

Anyway they have chose to stay in the little coop most of the time today though I opened the door into bigger coop area. Out to stretch then right back in little one. Even perching on the roost which they never do.

Good news!

Molting is common at this time of year--almost my entire flock is molting. Needless to say, they look awful. But within a few months, your hens should all have beautiful new feathers.

It is barely above freezing here at night! But I think she is filling in pretty quickly.
