What in the WORLD? What color is this strange Silkie??

There is a whole lot more making the skin white than just barring. YES, anyone can love, adore, etc. their bird, regardless of how close it does or does not come to the standard, but since it was apparently being exhibited at a show, no, it is not an exhibition bird to be proud of. It falls FAR short of the standard. If the bird was there for showmanship, does its owner know its faults? Is it well trained for showmanship? For that matter, it is a project bird being worked upon? In that case, bringing it along to discuss with fellow breeders and ask questions might be worthwhile.

I adore my JRT, but in no way does she meet the very loose confirmation standards of the JRTCA, and I would never consider showing her.

Some people are WAY to eager to take offense at an honest evaluation.

Relative to ur last comment I think what the real problem is:
people are just getting tired of a certain individual constantly having negative comments about peoples birds. There is no such thing as the "perfect" bird! The old beauty is in the eye of the beholder! What's important is getting enjoyment from our birds, if you don't like somebody's bird so be it..there is no need to constantly have something negative to say

Yes, and yet for all that one individuals' help lately, and for a comment which was vague enough you have to all instantly jump on, it is just simply completely necessary?

I'm saying if one has to truly be proud, at a show, implying they're proud of it comparing to the standard, I, in MY opinion, don't think this would be an appropriate case. Yes, barring dilutes pigment, but I've rarely ever seen a barred Silkie with completely white skin and bright red comb/wattles. I'm not saying it is an ugly bird, nor did I say the owner should feel disgraceful - I'm just saying, it certainly isn't a completed or near complete project to be jumping up and down about. I'm proud they are getting to that color, but I just don't think someone should be so quick to brag about a bird who's got a long way to go.

you know what they say about opinions!

I think the part your not getting is sometimes it's better to keep your opinion to urself...you may not realize it but your comments at time come across very offensive to people. If You don't know what a person is attempting to accomplish with their project how can you judge the results...maybe they just want something that looks cool to them...
