What is a good snack for ducks

You are welcome. Members work to try to put the best, most-often asked-for information in the stickies. There is always more to learn!

I use dog potty pads. Easy to pick up and discard, and very absorbent. Walmart sells them in bags, 50 count for $12. When they are older and you put the ducklings outside, you won't need potty pads. Buy a bale of straw and use as needed. Straw makes a great flooring over wood, so predators can't dig under the sides of their walk-in pen. When they are about 4 1/2 mos. you can release them to your yard. No need for straw then. In a short time they will find your ponds or creeks and they will always hang out somewhere nearby so you can have the pleasure of watching your ducks as they go about their little lives being ducks.

They LOVE slugs.

I'd be cautious with slugs and ducklings, someone had posted on here recently that they lost 2 little ones right after another - apparently the ducklings had each eaten a slug, and the slugs produced vast amounts of their sticky goo as a defense (as slugs often do), suffocating both babies :(

The post had mentioned that the thick goo was bubbling out of the little ones nares and mouth....just a word of caution.

(I tried to locate the ordinal post about that, but I'm on my phone and couldn't locate it)

On my PC now - found it:

Yes, this was the first I had heard of this, but it is good to know it can happen. The slugs I gave our ducklings were not huge, they seemed fine. That is one benefit of sharing stories here - that's the way to learn.
