I have quite thick woods behind my backyard. Where should i locate my first chicken run, and how can i build a safe run and chicken house?

Photos of prospective spots can help.

I'd say the top things to consider are drainage and accessibility. Drainage can be added in most cases, but might be extra work you don't want to put in. Accessibility would be things like, do you need electricity run out to the coop? Will you need to carry water out? If so, how hard/easy would it be to do so?

Also are there are any restrictions in your area in regards to setbacks, etc?

You want a spot with good drainage -- where water neither stands and pools nor runs across the ground.

You want a spot with natural shade during the hottest part of the day (otherwise plan to provide shade).

You want a spot that's convenient to your source of water, your feed storage, and your house because you will need to provide the chickens' daily care and collect the eggs every single day no matter what the weather is like.

You need to respect any applicable setback or property use laws.

Yes , pics of places would help.

...and... Welcome to BYC! @Mizzyjomo
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
