What is a "house chicken?"

This is so funny!

No where does one buy chicken diapers? I'm guessing they are pretty nasty to change.

If you don't diaper them, do you "house break" them, or just don't let them loose in the house, only in the yard?

Ya'll know Im only kidding, right? You gotta expect that if you are going to diaper a chicken and have it surf the 'Net with you, then someone is gonna poke a little fun.

(I shudder to think just how far this COULD go - I mean chickens in the bed and all. Eeeeeesh! My mind just goes blank.....)

Actually, I've grown accustomed to the idea of diapered chickens in the house, as utterly inane as that still seems.
So you, my beloved friends, have taught me tolerance. Thanks.

Surprisingly there are people who actually make them for sale. I'll bet you can find them on ebay.
The ones I've seen have little pads of paper towel or something that just change out.
But, many people make their own and there is even a tutorial video on YouTube.
Kinda interesting, actually, in a Ripleys-Believe-It-Or-Not sort of way..

Exactly! They sleep on the foot of the bed and watch television with him. They are sitting on him as he makes his rounds around BYC as we type.

Go ahead, yuk it up.

Let me just say for the reocrd that there are NO house chickens at Chez Elderoo, diapered or otherwise. I have done some crazy things in my day, and there was that whole period in college where I....well, never mind about THAT!

But, I will confess to having a certain fascination with the whole chicken diaper thing. You pschology buffs would likely call it the root of my denial.

We people have cats and dogs and weasels and fish and reptiles and other assorted birds living in our homes, after all. People and livestock lived together in medieval times, so I hear. I've even heard that a descented skunk makes a great house pet. SO why not a chicken? There is precedence.
They really are pretty clean, even benign, when viewed that way. Well, providing you see to their hideous toilet habits.

I wonder, though. Suppose they mistook your expensive carpet for a patch of grass and started to scratch it up? Then what?

We have a pet chicken...a little EE hen who gets picked on and pecked at horribly by the other birds. She free ranges all day long, and never wanders far. At night she sleeps in a brooder in the garage. She knows the garage is her home - if we leave the door open at night she wanders in there and perches on my DH's toolbox and falls asleep.
