What is a Sizzle = Silkie + ?

Quote:
He IS a sizzle, just not one who is many generations developed to where he has all super silkie traits. In him, what is missing most is body type. His wattles are fairly large, and they, plus his comb ought to be darker. That said, he is really cute. Looks very soft and hugable

And I really like his colouring. Breed to a black or grey silkie with really dark skin and good type. Then select the chicks with the best lacing and continue the next generation

Sonoran Silkies, thanks for the info. His wattles and comb are very dark purple and his ears are a pretty turquoise. Camera just didn't show it. I have a really nice gray splash Silkie hen with good confirmation, dark skin and they are both so cuddly and tame. That might be a good combo to try. Kind of new to this Sizzle thing, so in next generation breeding, I would take the best colored chicks and breed to another bloodline of gray Silkies? Don't want inbreeding, right? Just keep picking the best marked and keep breeding to a gray Silkie? Happy New Year and thanks again.

I was told mine was a six week sizzle. But the whole sizzle, frizzle, silkie thing has gotten me so confused! can you help??

well I learned about this bird on EXHIBITION FRIZZLE page on facebook

A lady and I were talking about extreme frizzles AKA curlies

Glenda Heywood Pure bred specimens of any breed type sell for more money as breeding show quality takes time and money and excellent breeding stock to start with. Thus I am for educating all of us as to correct terminology for breed type and offspring terminology for breed type offspring terminology to be professional breeders. .
Vera Morea Not insulted. If you breed frizzle to frizzle that's what everyone calls a frazzle, isn't it? Or is it curly to curly? I have 2 frizzle Cochins. The curlies are very small. Old English? Someone was having to get rid of birds. They were running free so really hard to catch. From a distance I saw frizzling & really had to run to catch them. Lol! Wasn't til I got home that I noticed the feathering. Now that they're older they're still smaller & not as round as the Cochins. They're very cute but because feathers underneath are straight they always seem to need a bath. I can post some up to date pics & you can tell me what you think?

Glenda Heywood Yes post some photos of them now? You mentioned the underneath feathers are straight. DOES THAT MEAN THEY ONLY HAVE THE FRIZZLING AT THE TIPS OF THE FEATHERS? iF SO THAT DENOTES A EXTREME FRIZZLE OR CURLY FRIZZLE. Also did they get any wider or rounder? They must have come from a commercial breeder who let several breeders run together and some must have been frizzle. That breeder sold to Stromberg. If you get in touch with some of the frizzle breeders you should be able to purchase some breeder cochin frizzles for around $20.00 to $25.00 each and get a good start in frizzles.
Glenda Heywood I surely never called a frizzle a FRAZZLE. I feel that is a slam to the frizzle breed type. Either call them EXTREME FRIZZLE OR CURLY'S which you do not want.
Glenda Heywood When buying breeding stock of Cochin frizzles besure and check the leg and feet color and eye color and beak color. That is why you must buy a ABA and or APA standard and look up Cochin qualifications fro the breed and then look up Frizzle cochins. As specifications for the cochin breed will apply to your color of cochin frizzles. Denote color differences in the Cochin breed type.

V. M. I've heard frizzle to frizzle breeding = frazzles, a basically naked bird. That's what confused me. They're not naked. I breed frizzled Polish & Sizzles & also have 2 frizzled Cochins. Never seen
this type of feathering before.

Glenda Heywood
Then when you have learned from the standard about Cochin Frizzles go to a sshow and take your standard or write off in a note book the qualifications for the color cochin frizzles youwant to buy. Do not let the breeder intimadate in looking closely to eye, leg, feet color as you want every thing just so. Do not take just any old chicken for sale but get the right distinction of the birds make up. That way you will not be sold a bad specimen
V.M. the feathers are curly. The feathers on the back under the curls is straight & come out easily.

Glenda Heywood Well something new WHAT IS A SIzzLE?

Glenda Heywood My original statement that these are mixed up breed types and not true cochin frizzle. And as their feathering is truly different they are curlies or extreme frizzle. Where the breeder was mass producing birds to sell stromberg and ran several kinds of frizzles together to produce more fertile eggs. Thus the curlies came thru.
V. M. A sizzle is a Cochin crossed with a Silkie. Black skin, 5 toes but Cochin feathering. Then there's a Shizzle which is a showgirl with Cochin feathers.

Glenda Heywood folks you all are just learning and if serious poultry pure breeders must do as I tell every one
(1) Go on line and bring up the AMERICAN BANTAM ASSN BUY THEIR STANDARD FOR BANTAMS AND BANTAM DUCKS
(2) Go on line and bring up AMERICAN POULTRY ASSN FOR LARGE FOWL, BANTAMS, ALL WATERFOWL AND TURKEYS TO BUY THEIR STANDARD
then go to the part of the books where your breed favorite is discussed and learn about the breed type you want to raise. Then if interested in Frizzling read about that for the breed type and color of bird.
(3) Also go on line and get the poultry press the only American poultry newspaper. You can see where the shows are and find one in your area and go there and look over the show birds and they usually have sale areas buy some quality birds from good breeders

My how can you tell this is a frizzle: if so then yes you would breed the silkie frizzle to a smooth silkie; thus would not breed in more frizzle blood. as too much frizzle blood causes extreme frizzles and or curlie frizzles. and eventually will breed all the feathers off a bird.
I do not know where the term sizzle came from certainly not from pure bred silkie frizzle breeders.
All pure bred chickens are bred to a standard of either the ABA or APA organizations of pure bred poultry.
Go to the Exhibition frizzle page on facebook and read about frizzles there
