What is an Easter Egger?

Easter Eggers are hybrids produced by crossing blue egg layers (Ameraucanas, Araucanas, Cream Legbars, or blue egg laying Easter Eggers) with brown egg laying breeds to produce offspring that lay eggs in colors other than just blue (olive, green, beige, and occasionally even pale pink). Unfortunately, hatcheries often and incorrectly market their Easter Eggers under the labels Ameraucana or Araucana when they are not, in fact, true Ameraucanas or Araucanas. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference between Ameraucanas, Araucanas, and Easter Eggers.
